The Boise State Broncos are gearing up for an exciting 2025 season, and one name stands out as a potential leader in running back touches: Dylan Riley. Dubbed "The Jet" for his explosive speed and agility, Riley has all the makings of a breakout star. Here's why I believe he will take center stage in the Broncos' backfield this year.

Riley's freshman season in 2024 showcased his potential. Despite limited opportunities, he managed 22 carries for 135 yards 3TDs, averaging an impressive 6.1 yards per carry.  Dylan’s speed is undeniable as it was shown with his 64-yard touchdown run against Portland State, and then again with a 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.  His ability to maximize yardage with every touch should not box him in as just a special team weapon but prove Jet’s readiness for a larger role as a feature back in 2025. With the departure of veteran running backs and the Broncos' need to fill the void left by Ashton Jeanty, Riley's stats are likely to skyrocket as he becomes a focal point of the offense.

Their unwavering encouragement and guidance have helped him navigate the challenges of collegiate football. He demonstrated his willingness to perform under pressure and adapt to the demands of collegiate football with his early commitment and admission last spring. Burning his red shirt wasn’t even a question for the D2X Team. This early exposure gave him a head start in understanding the team's playbook and developing chemistry with his teammates.

Good Health and Physical Resilience

One of Dylan's key advantages to heading into 2025 is his good health. Unlike Sire Gaines and Breezy Dubar, who have struggled with injuries, Riley has remained physically resilient. Gaines missed most of the 2024 season due to a lingering injury, while Dubar battled injuries throughout his sophomore year. Riley's ability to stay healthy gives him a significant edge in earning the majority of playing time.

Speed and Athleticism

Riley's nickname, "The Jet," is well-deserved. His speed and athleticism set him apart from his peers. Whether it's breaking through defensive lines or outrunning opponents in the open field, Riley's explosion makes him a game-changer. Jet has the potential to be a weapon in all three phases of his game, but much needed attention as a running back with Ashton Jeanty’s jump to the NFL.

The Competition: Sire Gaines and Breezy Dubar

In 2024 while Gaines (20 carries 156 yards TD), and Dubar (25 carries 99 yards 2TDs) are talented running backs, their injury histories raise concerns about their reliability. Gaines showed promise in his limited appearances but struggled to stay on the field. Dubar, despite his speed and potential, has yet to prove he can consistently handle a heavy workload. Riley's health, combined with his skill set, makes him the more dependable choice for leading the backfield. My hope is that all our Boise State running backs step onto the field at South Florida with a clean bill of health.

Dylan Riley is poised to become Boise State's go-to running back in 2025. His impressive freshman stats, supportive family, good health, speed, and early experience give him a clear advantage over his competitors.
