BLUE TURF TALK | JA'BREE BICKHAM

HIGHLY RATED RECRUIT JA'BREE BICKHAM BREAKS HIS SILENCE

February 24, 2025
Article By Chris Van Sickle

Every year there are recruits that you look at and just get a good feeling about. Last season mine were Sire Gains and Clay Martineau. Both players are true freshman and considered to have very bright futures. The year before that was Ty Benefield and Michael Madrie. Benefield is a star and Madrie, while not breaking out like I thought he would, will have more opportunities this year. For the 25/26 season, my pick is Ja’Bree Bickham.
After a season where playing two ways (both offense and defense) was a hotly debated topic, Ja’Bree could make his own case for having a Travis Hunter-like skill set. Ja’Bree played both wide receiver and defensive back his senior season, and found success with each, recording 329 yards receiving and 5 interceptions. But I’m excited about this young man for more than just his stats. Watching his tape, you see a tall player with room to pack on weight. He has not just the size but the speed to really excel, putting up track numbers like running 10.89 in the 100m, a 20 ft long jump and who also competes in the triple jump. His tape highlights an explosive, lanky young man who plays the ball well in the air but also can lay punishing hits on the opponent. Ja’Bree was recently reevaluated by 247 Sports and given a 90 rating which makes him a 4-Star prospect. On a recent show by the Mountain West Network, Ja’Bree was picked as the most exciting recruit coming into the Mountain West this season, and I agree.
Ja’Bree is a busy young man who likes to keep his head down and focus on his goals. He has not (that I’ve found) spoken to the media at all, which is why I was so grateful when he agreed to answer some questions for me. I hope you enjoy the information he shared!

Q: Your senior season, did you play full-time both ways or did you mainly focus on Wide Receiver?
A: During the season I played full-time both sides of the ball. I wasn’t focused on one or the other, I just wanted to make plays.

Q: How was your senior season?
A: My senior season was great and I think I improved more on my ball skills.

Q: What is your current height and weight?
A: I’m currently 180 pounds. (*note* He lists himself at 6’3”)

Q: What other offers did you have?
A: I had an offer from Michigan State, Texas State and a couple more.

Q: What made Boise State stand out to you?
A: Boise State stood out to me because they treated me more like family rather than a recruit.

Q: Does Boise plan to play you at corner or safety?
A: I’m pretty sure Boise plans on having me at safety but I feel I can fit in at both positions.

Q: When did you take your official visit to Boise?
A: I took my official visit last summer in June. The visit was great and I learned a lot about the culture of Boise.

Q: Have the coaches talked to you about possibly playing as a true freshman?
A: No, I haven’t been talked to about playing as a true freshman but that’s my plan.

Q: What do you need to do to earn playing time your freshman season?
A: Learning the playbook and pushing myself every day. My goal is to become a great true freshman and get my name out there to show I’m one of the best in the country.

Q: Describe your skill set.
A: I’ve played against a lot of good teams like Southlake Carroll, Allen, and Prosper. I’m very lengthy, fast, and have great ball skills.

Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: I like to eat, watch anime, sleep, or listen to music.

Q: Talk about your relationship with coach D?
A: My relationship with Coach D is very good. We have talks often to check in on each other.

I want to thank Ja’Bree for taking the time out of his day to answer these questions. I know Bronco Nation is very excited to see this young man grow and excel playing on the Blue!
