Kole Cronin - From The Slopes To The Line
Article By Nick Wade
PROTECT THE PAC-12
As Boise State prepares for a new era in the restructured PAC-12 Conference in 2026, the importance of building a strong, character-driven recruiting class has never been more critical. To compete on a national stage, the Broncos need more than just talent—they need leaders, warriors, and young men who embrace the grind. Few embody this better than Class of 2026 offensive line commit Kole Cronin. A late bloomer with a background as diverse as it is impressive, Cronin brings rare athleticism, a sharp mind, and a deep sense of purpose to the blue turf.
The Unlikely Start
Cronin’s journey to football wasn’t traditional. In fact, before his freshman year, he had never played—not even flag football. It was a friend of his dad’s, a Pop Warner coach, who needed players and invited Cronin to join. With friends already on the team and a natural frame built for the trenches, he gave it a shot. Quickly slotted into the offensive line, Kole discovered a new passion, one that has driven his rapid rise.
Coaching That Changed Everything
Early in his football career, Kole was surrounded by a trio of coaches who would shape his foundation: Offensive Line Coach Charles Manu, Defensive Line Coach Ken Crawford, and Head Coach Ernie Howren, a former lineman himself. Their combined experience, passion, and belief in Kole helped accelerate his development on both sides of the ball.
From Snow to the Gridiron
Before football, Kole was a Nevada State Champion ski racer, with 17 years on snow and even competition at the FIS (International Skiing Federation) level. He also played baseball as a pitcher and corner infielder. The focus, toughness, and physical attributes gained from ski racing—like ankle flexion, balance, and fast feet—have translated directly to his dominance on the football field. “You can’t be passive in ski racing,’ he says. ‘It’s active decision-making—just like on the O-line.”
Breakout on the Field
With only one season of Pop Warner under his belt, Kole’s rise has been swift. When asked to play both ways due to injuries, he gave it everything he had—and earned Defensive Lineman of the Year honors. He currently plays both left and right tackle and has his sights set on earning Offensive Lineman of the Year as a senior. His focus this season? Stay healthy, grow stronger, and perfect his technique.
Recruitment and Boise State Commitment
Kole first met Boise State OL Coach Tim Keane at the Northwest Showcase during his sophomore year. After sending in his junior film, the relationship intensified. But what truly sealed the deal was the authenticity of the staff—especially Coach Keane and Coach Danielson. ‘They’re men of faith and high character,’ says Kole. “There’s no flash or ego. What you see is what you get.” That integrity, combined with Boise’s culture and community, made it the clear choice.
Looking to the Future
At Boise State, Kole plans to major in either construction management or business. He knows the transition won’t be easy, but he’s ready for it. He wants to immerse himself in the team, soak up knowledge, and contribute as soon as he steps on campus. His ultimate goal? Help Boise compete for championships, on and off the field.
The Mindset of a Champion
Kole is laser-focused on ending his high school career strong—with team and individual honors, including another state title. As a student-athlete, he understands the balance between the classroom and the field. “You have to take care of your academics to handle your business on the field,” he says
A Message to Bronco Nation
“I can’t thank Bronco Nation enough for the love,’ Kole says. ‘I’m not even on campus yet, and I’ve already felt the support. Boise fans are the best!” For this outdoors-loving, fly-fishing, Tahoe-bred lineman, Boise already feels like home.
Rapid-Fire Fun
Favorite NFL player? Trent Williams
Go-to pregame meal? Chicken Alfredo
Most memorable moment? Tipping a pass that led to a pick-six for his best friend in the state championship.
Hobbies? Fishing, hunting, skiing, and spending time in the outdoors.
One word that defines you? Flexible
As Boise State looks to establish dominance in a restructured PAC-12, it’s players like Kole Cronin who will lead the charge. His late start in football is overshadowed by his rapid growth, championship pedigree, and rare athletic background shaped by elite ski racing. But beyond his physical tools, it’s Kole’s humility, mental toughness, and faith-driven mindset that stand out. He’s not coming to Boise just to take up space on the line—he’s coming to elevate everyone around him. With his eyes set on championship rings and classroom excellence, Bronco Nation isn’t just getting a lineman—they’re getting a leader.
